The Sea Grappler crew is proud to be a part of the first “Fishing for Plastics” tournament, June 3rd, 2017. For some time, we have been involved in the research being done by the Plastic Ocean foundation.

Plastics are wonderful, and it would be hard to imagine a developed society like ours living without them. Unfortunately, improper disposal is causing serious harm to our oceans. Plastic Ocean researches this huge problem and seeks ways to solve it.

Mate Michael helps UNCW students empty research trawl pulled through Sargasso grass to study plastic fragments. And YES – there are fragments in every tow made.

The tournament is June 03, 2017 and will be based at the Maritime Museum in Beaufort, NC.
